Read Across America Spirit Week

Behavior on Playground – Our Dragons are amazing and phenomenal. But there is always room for improvement. We need your assistance with sending a message to your kids about making positive choices on the playground. This includes but is not limited to keeping hands to self, being in locations that aren’t supervised, bringing toys and other inappropriate items from home, and being kind to one another. Ideally, I would like to hire additional staff to help with supervision but the budget does not allow it. Please remind your Dragons about making positive choices and following school rules.

Volunteers to Lead Recess Clubs – One of the most difficult times for kids is unstructured time. This is JUST AN IDEA. I’d like to create small structured clubs to be run by mostly parents during lunch. For example, board games club, Pokemon club, chess club, chalk club, hula hoop club, and jump rope club. The goal is to give kids who struggle with unstructured time an opportunity to participate in a structured activity that is managed and supervised by an adult. You wouldn’t need to be an expert. You would just need to be willing to supervise a small group of kids. Like I said this is just an idea that I would like to see if there is any interest and willing volunteers. Any volunteer would need to be fingerprinted and cleared through the district. If you are interested please complete this Google Form

Neighborhood Parking – A friendly reminder to please show respect for our neighbors when parking in the neighborhood for arrival and dismissal. I have received a number of complaints asking our families to not block residential driveways, double park which prevents the flow of traffic, and not park on top of leaf piles. Also, parking illegally on corners creates a blind spot for when our students are trying to cross the street. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year Dragons!

Dear Phoebe Hearst Families and Friends,

Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful, restful, and eventful winter break. As you prepare to return to school Monday, here are a few quick announcements and reminders.

Masking Update: Because Sacramento County has reentered the “medium” COIVD-19 community level, the district is not imposing an indoor mask requirement at this time. While masks are not required, they remain highly recommended. Please read the email to view a message from the district with more information.

Rain: Beginning Monday morning, a storm is expected to bring over an inch of rain and 30 mph winds to Sacramento. The forecast also includes the threat of localized flooding on Tuesday with a flood watch continuing through Wednesday. Please monitor the warnings and take necessary precautions. BE SAFE!

Morning Announcements: Reminder about the changes to morning announcements. If you did not yet read, please review the  December 23rd announcement, linked to in the email. Starting Monday, January 9, 2023 (weather pending) full announcements will occur every Monday and Friday. The pledge will continue to be recited together on the blacktop at the start of school each day. An early bell will ring at 7:55 am each day to remind the students to line up.

PTO General Meeting: There will be a PTO meeting on campus on Wednesday, January 11th, beginning at 6pm. The district GATE coordinator, Kari Lofing, will be in attendance to answer any questions about GATE testing and placement.

Golden Dragons: On Friday, January 13th we’ll honor our Golden Dragon winners for December who exhibited being a humanitarian.

Once again, welcome back to school and I am looking forward to seeing your smiling faces!!!
