Jog-a-thon, C-19 Testing, SEL theme & Home Run Reader

Jog-a-thon
Congrats and thank you to all of our students & families that participated in our Jog-a-thon fundraiser.  We raised over $110,000! Our Jog-a-thon will take place on Friday, October 22nd and will be a free dress day.

We have a wonderful parent, Marco Martinez, that is willing and able to live stream this event so that all families can view their child during the jog-a-thon. The live stream URL will be password protected and will NOT be viewable on any social media. The live-streaming will be completely secure. If you have questions regarding this service, please email them to [email protected].

COVID-19 Testing
We had many families sign up for weekly surveillance testing. Please note that we will be using the Rapid Antigen test for surveillance testing.  PCR tests are available upon request and only administered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Siblings may be tested on different days of the week because our health aides test by classroom.  We have over 100 students signed up for weekly testing.  Please email our health aides for additional information.

COVID Testing, Volunteers, Lunch Menu & PTO News

Happy Friday and happy picture day!  Our students looked phenomenal in their picture day best.  If your child was absent today, retakes will be on October 29th.

COVID Testing

If you would like to have your child surveillance tested once a week during their instructional day please fill out this form.  This testing will happen once a week for those families that are interested in having their children regularly tested.  You must also register your child(ren) through our system to give permission for testing.  This new system will begin next week.

Volunteer Screening Process

Would you like to volunteer at Phoebe?  There will be limited opportunities to volunteer on campus.  There are some additions to the process this year including proof of COVID vaccination and mandated reporter training.   Click on the link for more information.

Lunch Menu

As you may have heard our district is having a food shortage issue and as such lunch menu options may change.  I will announce the correct lunch menu item every morning to our students at morning announcements.

COVID update, Picture Day, Logo & Jog-a-thon

We made it through our first full week of school!  I cannot tell you how excited we all are to have our students back on campus full time.

COVID Update:
According to the SCUSD COVID Dashboard, Phoebe Hearst Elementary has had zero cases on campus for the month of September.  It is my hopes that we keep with that trend. We must all do our part as we all play a vital role with mitigation strategies.  We temperature screen all students before they enter the classroom, have testing on site, and practice the health and safety mitigation strategies as outlined in our Return to Health Plan.  As a reminder, please keep your children home if they have any symptoms.  If you know that your child has been a close contact, please alert me or our health aide as soon as possible.  It is through our collective vigilance that we will keep our children safe and at school.

Picture day:
Picture day is next Friday, September 24th.  It will be a free dress Friday so have your child wear their best for their 21-22 school pictures. Retakes will be on October 29th.

New Phoebe Hearst Logo:
A big thank you to parent, Kathryn O’Connell, for designing our new Phoebe Hearst logo! You will see this unveiled on our Jog-a-thon swag in October.  Thank you, Kathryn!

Jog-a-thon
Our school-wide jog-a-thon is on Oct 22. Students will run with their grade level for 15 minutes as fast/far as they can on a course on our field.

Each child is fundraising as much as she/he/they can for the event — the more each student fundraises, the more prizes the student earns. (Prizes include jog-a-thon attire that can be worn as uniform attire.)

We have some additional prizes, including a dedicated parking spot for the family that collectively fundraises the most.

September 24th is our deadline for accepting donations. When your student turns in his/her/their donation envelopes, please be sure to include the sizes for the earned prizes, which you can do here:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc5mxZV8753i8CTjBJnM_RIYq8qe-8Z2jFTCdq-tip4h7JdbQ/viewform

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

Traffic, BTSN, Jog-a-thon & Chipotle

Hello, Phoebe families,

We made it to our 6th day of school. As students and staff ease into our normal school schedule, I wanted to share what our focus has been to aid to the already amazing Phoebe culture. As a staff, we talked about the need to build strong relationships with those students that we serve. Together we watched this  video on ways in which we can become students of our students. Students who feel seen are always more apt to learn.

Would you like to volunteer for traffic help in the mornings?

Mr. Isaac could use your help as a crossing guard, opening car doors, and moving cars along the drop-off line. Please email me if you would like to help.  [email protected]

Tomorrow is the BIG day!

Hello Phoebe families,

Tomorrow is the big day.  We are SO excited to welcome our dragons to campus.  I want to assure you that we are making all of the necessary preparations to ensure an environment that is safe both emotionally and physically.  As such, there will be many staff members on campus early to guide students where they need to go when they walk through our gates.  Our current guidance does not allow for families to be on campus just yet.  As always, we are here to support our students and families in any way that we can.

Tomorrow’s Shortened Day Schedule:
Every Thursday will be a shortened day schedule.  That includes tomorrow.  Our schedule is as follows:

Kinder 8:00-12:40
1st-3rd 8:00-1:02
4th-6th 8:00-1:17

Testing on site:
We now have two health aides on campus at all times to assist us with our COVID health and safety protocols.  They will help with screening in the morning and with testing on site.  Our testing schedule is as follows:

Tuesdays – 2:00-2:45
Thursdays – 1:00-1:45

If you need additional information, please contact our lead health aide, Jersey Fatlowitz at  [email protected]

Thank you and we will see you tomorrow!
