Jog-A-Thon, SSC, Spirit Week…

Good evening, Phoebe families,

I want to thank all those who have been actively collecting pledges and gearing up for our Jog-A-Thon. The timeline for the Jog-A-Thon has changed by one week. The virtual Jog-a-Thon will take place the week of November 16th-20th. Accordingly, the deadline to turn in pledges and the swag size form has been extended to Monday, October 26th. You have another week to get those pledges in. Also, the drive-thru swag pick up will be the week of November 9th. All supporting information can be found at this link.

Have you had a chance to look at our election ballot for School Site Council? Please take a moment to and vote for no more than two candidates. The election will close on Friday, October 23rd at 5:00pm. The two candidates with the most votes will be announced in next Sunday’s recorded message to families.

Don’t forget about Spirit Week during the week of October 26th – 30th. The daily themes ( illustrated on our website by on-call artists) are as follows:

Monday 26th – Silly Socks
Tuesday 27th – Silly Hair
Wednesday 28th – Mismatch
Thursday 29th – Dragon Pride
Friday 30th – Orange & Black

We had over 350 responses to our lunch time survey from families. The results are as follows: 52.8% of families would prefer to move our lunch time to 11:30am, 28.2% are agreeable to either lunch time, and 18.9% would like to keep the 10:55am lunch time. Listening to the feedback of our families, we will be moving our lunch time to 11:30am beginning Monday, October 26th, to give working families time to make adjustments to their schedules. This lunch time will be applicable to all students in 1st – 6th grade.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening.

Good evening, Phoebe families,

The School Site Council election is now open and will be open for two weeks. We have seven interested parent/community member candidates to fill the two open positions for the 2020-21 school year. Please take a moment to read about our seven candidates on the ballot link and vote for no more than two. We have five parent/community member spots total. Next year we will have three open spots as the term for council members is two years. The elections results will be announced on October 25th. Thank you in advance for your vote!

Please help us to ensure your student continues to engage in Distance Learning through established safety protocols. One layer of security is for your student to log into Zoom using his/her district username and password. This is the same username and password for their Google Classroom that they have already been using since the beginning of the year. Your child’s safety continues to be our priority and this ensures that your child joins as an authenticated user. Please call the front office if you having trouble logging in.

Every Friday your child views a recorded Friday Principal’s Message. If your child is interested in saying the pledge, please email me at michelle-pechette@scusd.edu.

Weekly Announcements 10/4

Good evening Phoebe Families,

Autumn is upon us and we are already well into the month of October. With every new month comes a new Social-Emotional Learning theme. This month’s theme is Confidence. Teachers will focus on this theme and weave mini-lessons into their daily instruction. Here is the SEL Parent Resource flyer for October.

Get ready for a fall festive spirit week planned for our dragons. We are going to have school-wide dress up days during the week of October 26th-30th. Those dress up days are:
October 26th – Silly Socks
October 27th – Silly Hair
October 28th – Mismatch
October 29th – Dragon Pride
October 30th – Orange & Black

As part of our District Common Assessment and LCAP data collection process, the district has launched a Fall School Climate Survey in addition to the annual spring survey administered to all 3rd through 6th grade students. This additional fall survey will provide a pulse check on how our students are experiencing school climate, as it relates to social emotional learning, sense of safety, and belonging/connectedness. Your 3rd – 6th grade child is scheduled to take this survey in the next couple of weeks. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding this survey.

We have received an overwhelming amount of feedback from families about our current schedule with regards to our lunch time and the desire to move it to 11:30. We understand that families have work schedules that need consideration when changing our school schedule. It is important to hear from all voices. Please take a moment to fill out this very short survey to let us know your preference. Please note that this would not eliminate after-lunch live instruction. The purpose would be to give students longer learning blocks before their hour-long lunch.

This month we launched our Home Run Reader program and our Jog-A Thon Fundraiser. Links are provided below for full program details.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Good evening Phoebe families,

Last week our school was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Phoebe was one of only 33 schools in California to receive the honor in 2020 and one of only two in Northern California. We are so incredibly proud of the work of our students, teachers, school site staff and our entire school community for their hard work and dedication to achieve this very high honor. This is truly a group effort which benefits our students by helping them excel and achieve.

Are you interested in serving on our School Site Council? The School Site Council is a committee made up of teachers, parents, administration and community members for the purpose of offering decisions about how our School Plan for Student Achievement dollars are spent. If you are interested in running for one of our three open seats, please fill out this interest form to be considered for our election that will take place in October.

Here are a couple messages from our PTO:

Weekly Announcements 9/14

Good evening Phoebe families,

I hope you had a chance to rest and relax on your weekend. This will be our first full week of Distance Learning. I appreciated the feedback that I received from families regarding how your child’s first week went. Our staff is working very hard on meeting the needs of our students. There may have been technical issues that were out of our control but teachers, students and families were able to problem solve and work together. Thank you for your patience.

One thought I wanted to share with you is that this pandemic has affected all of us in unique ways. I read a quote this week that stated that we are all in the same storm; however, we are all driving different boats. Being sensitive to the specific needs of our students and families is our focus here at Phoebe. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or myself if your child is in need of support.

This month our social-emotional learning (SEL) theme is Collaboration. I have attached a family resource guide for you to read as your children are learning about this in their classes for the month of September.

Mark your calendar for September 30th. That will be our first Dine and Donate at Chipotle. More information to come.

Finally, please take a look at our Parent Teacher Organization’s newsletter for the month of September.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening.
