Hybrid School Calendar, After School Care

First Weeks of Our Return:
It has come to my attention that there are some questions regarding the first 2 weeks of our return to in-person learning.  I want to make sure that families have information regarding the calendar as it relates to cohorts and teacher preparation days.  You can access that calendar here.   

After-School Care:
Please see the link for the 2020-2021 Expanded Learning (after school program) Application: https://www.youthdevelopmentscusd.org/. The Application is currently live and will close on April 1, 2021.  Following the end of in-person learning, students will be able to participate in engaging experiences and physically distanced activities in the expanded learning space including, but not limited to: academic support, sports, art, dance, STEM, and other outdoor activities.  The Expanded Learning program will run for 3.5 hours after the conclusion of the regular day.   You will receive a call from our Expanded Learning team during April 5 – 7 regarding your student’s enrollment in the Expanded Learning program.

Return Together Update, Volunteers Needed, Talent Show, Art Newsletter, STEM

I am happy to share that SCUSD and SCTA have reached an agreement and a  Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed this weekend.  A few important updates from that agreement are:

  1. The elementary learning model has been modified, in that Cohort A will attend in-person learning on campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Cohort B will attend in-person learning on campus on Thursdays and Fridays.  Cohort C will continue to be a full distance learning option in which students will concurrently learn with Cohorts A & B.
  2. K-3rd grade students will return on April 8th and 4th-6th grade students will return on April 15th.  Per the MOU, teachers will engage in professional learning and planning the 2 days before they receive students back into their classrooms.  As such, teachers will conduct a brief check in with students on those 2 days and will use the remainder of the days for planning and preparation.
  3. The drop off and pick up schedule can be found here or on our website.  As noted in the family information night, pick up times are staggered to ensure social distancing.  

Health Screening Volunteers:
We need your help!  Please take a moment to fill out this form if you are available to help health screen students on the mornings of in-person instruction.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  

Phoebe’s Got Talent:
Don’t forget… if your child is interested in submitting a video of their awesome talents, please fill out the Google Form here no later than March 26th. We will contact you soon after if we have any questions.

Announcement for the 21-22 School Year:
I am thoroughly excited to announce that next school year Phoebe will offer a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) prep class to students during their school day.  The intention of this class is to expose students to the hard sciences with hands on, phenomena based instruction.  More to information to come…

Virtual Parent Info Night, Childcare Option, Phoebe’s Got Talent, Home Run Reader

Virtual Parent Information Night
Don’t forget about our parent information night tomorrow, Monday, March 15th at 5:30pm to discuss learning options and re-opening plans.  

Thank you to all of those families that have had the opportunity to fill out our  learning options survey.  If after tomorrow night’s meeting you decide to choose a different learning option for your child or your family has specific needs that I need to be aware of, please contact me at  michelle-pechette@scusd.edu The survey closes on March 17th. 

Childcare Option
To support families our front office staff has been actively seeking after-school child care options for families.  One option that has come available is Dragon Fire Martial Arts.  They will be offering after school child care for 1st – 6th grade students.  Please contact Dragon Fire directly if you have questions or are interested in signing up.  Their phone number is 916-494-1220.

Phoebe’s Got Talent is back!  
Dust off your dancing shoes, shine up those instruments, and get ready because you just might be the star of our first ever virtual talent show!  Phoebe’s Got Talent – “Live” From Home is officially underway.  While we will miss seeing everyone at an in-person event, the “stage” is open for our talented dragons to upload their 1-2 minute video. The top 20 acts will be selected and featured in the 2021 virtual show going “live” on April 29 th at 6 pm.

Anything that would normally be done on stage is eligible for consideration.  Although we know there are millions of talents that our students show every day at home, on the field, in the pool and throughout our community, this will still be a show and our organizers are looking for performances like those that Phoebe’s Got Talent traditionally features. 

Important note regarding air rock: For everyone’s safety, group air rock acts are of course welcome, however, groups must perform together but apart. In-person group air rock acts unfortunately do not meet our safety requirements, but it works great to film each group member’s personal segment and create one fun air rock video! Please get in touch with PGT organizers for clarification or examples of how to do this.

Videos will need to be uploaded by April 13th which will allow us plenty of time to edit the final show.  We will provide all of the upload details and instructions before the deadline!

Learning Options/Cohorts, In-Person Learning, Uniforms, Parent Info Night

There is much preparation underway at Phoebe to ensure the safe return to campus for many of our students.  We are thrilled to be at a point to welcome our students back to in-person learning with targeted re-opening dates of April 8th for all Kinder-3rd graders and April 15th for all 4th-6th graders.  I know there are many questions that families have about the logistics of our Return to Learn Plan.  I would like to highlight a few.

Learning Options/Cohorts
It is important for families to fill out our learning options survey.   Please complete the form at  k12-schedule.com/sac-city  to communicate the choice of learning option for your student by March 17 at 11:59 P.M. The form must be completed for each Sac City Unified student. If there is more than one student in your household please complete a form for each child. You will need to include your student’s ID number to complete the form .  If you do not know your child’s student ID number, please email yuliya-vathis@scusd.edu You can find more information about the learning options on our district’s webpage.  

The assurity that I can give about cohorts is that siblings will be placed in the same cohort.  Meaning that all children from a household will be assigned the same cohort.  

In-Person Learning
It has come to my attention that there are concerns about what the in-person concurrent model will look like. As a matter of clarification, students are NOT expected to be on Zoom from their own computers for the entire three hours. They will be learning with peers in the classroom, in a physically distanced environment with interaction from their teacher. This could mean using manipulatives, working in groups, participating in interactive activities, doing work on paper, and most importantly, having the opportunity to collaborate and interact with peers in person, with their current teacher. 

Knowing that it has been a full year that students have been on campus, the uniform requirement at Phoebe for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year will be very relaxed.  Please do not feel that you have to go out and purchase uniforms for your children if you choose the in-person learning option.  We will pick back up with our traditional dress code in the fall.  

Parent Information Night
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 24th at 5:30.  I will host a virtual Parent Information Night about our learning options at Phoebe and answer any questions that families may have about our targeted re-opening dates and plans.  

As the days roll on and further negotiations take place with our labor partners, there will be much more information to share.

March Social-Emotional Theme, Fitness Club, Return to Learn

Welcome to March! 

With a new month, we have a new Social-Emotional Learning theme.  This month’s theme is Integrity.  Parent resources for this month’s SEL theme will be made available soon.

If your child has signed up for Ms. Dighero’s fitness club but has not yet received an email from her, please email Ms. Dighero and she will send you zoom information for their first club meeting.  kelly-dighero@scusd.edu

Return to Learn
Please be on the lookout for an email from our district with a survey asking families which learning model they would like to choose for their child (in-person hybrid or full distance learning).  It is important that you fill that survey out in a timely manner.  For more information about the proposed plan and negotiations updates please visit our district’s website
