PTO Welcome Letter 2013-14

Dear PTO Members,

Welcome to the Phoebe Hearst Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) for the 2013-2014 school year! We’re so glad you’re joining us in supporting our school.

The 2012-2013 school year was a huge success for our PTO. It was our first full year as an independent PTO after breaking from the national Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Our hard work to form our own 501(c)(3) organization ensured that all funds raised stay on campus for our students. We had 494 members, and look forward to increasing that number.

We appreciate everyone who contributed to the success of our many school fundraisers and events, and supported our students in scoring #1 in the school district in English Language Arts, Math and Science. Some of last year’s PTO highlights include:

• The Jog-a-thon raised $27,000, which again, fully funded our art program.

• THE EVENT (Dinner & Auction) raised $25,000 for a school technology program. With these funds the PTO leased three iPad carts, including 100 iPads, for students to use in daily curriculum. We also provided additional funds to purchase items for our school’s new technology lab.

• The Harvest Festival raised $7,200; scripts raised $4,400; and PTO membership dues raised $4,300. All of these funds supported the following school-wide projects:

  • The Sellands Garden Program, including hardscape, plantings, a mural, and a new native plant garden.
  • Funding for enrichment materials and field trips for all classes.
  • The Home Run Reader program, where students read for 1.8 million minutes outside of school.
  • The Winter Craft Fair, whose proceeds were donated to the Mustard Seed School and Happy Tails Animal Sanctuary on behalf of Phoebe Hearst students.
  • The PTO also planned and funded several Family Fun Nights, including: Movie Night, Art Walk, Talent Show, Family Dance, Scarecrow Contest, Science Night

Please visit the PTO tab at for more information on how you can get involved. If you have any questions, ideas, or would like to volunteer to help with an event contact us via e-mail at

Thanks for your continued support, and we look forward to an exciting 2013-2014 school year!
