Spelling Bee, Auction, HRR pickup

Good evening, Phoebe families,

This month’s Social Emotional Learning theme is Perseverance. Please take a moment to read over the parent resource link that has many helpful at-home tips for talking to your children about perseverance.

Phoebe Spelling Bee

You have heard the buzz and we are excited to announce that the Phoebe Hearst Spelling Bee is back! This virtual event will take place over the course of the next few weeks as students work to become the 2020-21 PhoeBee champion. Throughout this week, students will have a chance to review lists and study words before our first round of grade-level competitions, which will be conducted via Zoom, the week of December 14. The top spellers from each grade will advance to our school-wide event held the week of January 4 when we return from Winter Break. We will work off of the attached Scripps National Spelling Bee lists. In order for your student to participate, please fill out the form available below or through the link here. If you have questions or would like additional information, please email phoebespellingbee@gmail.com.

PTO Updates (Auction, Holiday Drive, etc)

Phoebe families,

It has been a busy few months and the PTO has been working hard to adapt to all of the changes this year.  See below for details on a number of important programs, including a video wrap up to jogathon which makes our hearts very happy.  We thank you for all the support and enthusiasm we have received in 2020.

Our fundraising efforts this year

Thank you to everyone who donated to the jogathon this year.  We raised $80,000 which will support ALL of our programs this year (sadly, there will be no Spring Fundraiser due to COVID, so this was our one shot to fund the budget).  This includes our art program, continued landscaping at Phoebe to build out more outdoor spaces, teacher funds for their classroom, operational expenses and so much more.

Virtual jogathon video

The virtual jogathon itself was a big hit.  Our Phoebe dragons blew us away with their enthusiasm, energy and smiling faces while virtually running around their neighborhoods!  Check out our compilation video to feel all the good vibes!

Blankets, Books, Bears and Board games Charity Drive

The 2020 Holiday Drive is here! This year we are collecting Blankets, Books, Bears and Board Games/Puzzles to support foster youth in our community.  This is an especially hard year for these kids, so let’s bring them a little cheer by donating NEW, unwrapped items.  Drop off in the PH office before Monday, December 14th or you can order via  http://dreamlist.com/for/bbbb and ship directly to Children’s Law Center of CA.  ATTN: BBBB 8950 Cal Center Drive, STE 245, Sacramento, CA 95826.

Online Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee is back! Stay tuned for details in Mrs. Pechette’s upcoming Sunday messages.

Upcoming dine and donate

Dos Coyotes Fundraiser, Conferences, Jog-A-Thon

Good evening, Phoebe families,

I hope all of our Phoebe families had a safe and enjoyable weekend. As we round the corner into November, I am reminded that although we are in the midst of events that we cannot control, there is much to be grateful for which leads us into our new monthly Social Emotional Learning theme: Gratitude. Please take a moment to check out the parent resources regarding gratitude.

Need a dinner idea for election night? Come out and support our Dine and Donate event at Dos Coyotes from 4:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, November 3rd. 20% of all proceeds will go back to our school.

We will be holding Parent/Teacher conferences during the week of December 4-11. Your child’s teacher will be contacting you for a date and time for your conference. Most conferences will be scheduled in the afternoon time. If you have questions about parent/teacher conferences, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Thanks for everyone’s outstanding efforts to fundraise for the Jog-A-Thon. Together, we raised more than $80,000!

And BIG thank you to the Kindelt family for sponsoring the Jog-A-Thon so that every student will receive a Jog-A-Thon shirt!

We will be distributing Jog-A-Thon prizes the week of November 9 via drive through pick-up at school. Due to the Kindelt’s generosity, all students will have swag to be picked up. All COVID safety protocols will remain in place for this effort (masks required). Distribution will be done alphabetically on the following schedule:

Tuesday, Nov, 10 from 2-4pm: Last names starting with A – L
Thursday, Nov 12 from 2-4pm: Last names starting with M – Z

If you’re able to grab a friend or neighbor’s swag and deliver to them, you are welcome to do so. If you are unable to pick up your child’s Jog-A-Thon swag during these windows, you can pick up in the office on or after Friday, Nov 13.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! If you are able to do an hour-shift on either or both days, we could use the hands to make distribution fast and efficient.

Please sign up here: Jog-A-Thon Swag Drive Thru
