Phoebe Hearst Student Survey & Updates

Hello Phoebe Hearst families, 

This is Principal Michelle Pechette. We are so excited to return together on September 3rd. To help us plan, we need parents and guardians to complete a Return Together form for each Phoebe student. You can find this form at The form asks for your input on how you would like your student to attend school, technology needs and for feedback on distance learning. Please complete this form by August 10 to help us provide the best experience for your student.  

We are working very hard on completing class lists.  We are hoping to have those out soon.  Also, if you did not have a chance to pick up your 2019-20 yearbook, please email to schedule a time to pick it up.

Lastly, for former 4th grade families:  The Coloma field trip has officially been cancelled.  We are working diligently to issue refunds.  The process may take several weeks.  We appreciate your patience.

SCUSD Information on 2020-21 School Year

Sacramento City Unified School District has announced that all schools will begin the 2020-21 school year with full distance learning.

Please be sure to complete the SCUSD survey about learning options. One of the questions requires your child’s Student ID number. You may email Yuliya Vathis for this information if you don’t have it.

You may view the SCUSD’s draft Return to Learn plan here, and the draft Return to Health plan here. Feedback on the plans can be provided to the district via its website.

End of Year Message

Good evening Phoebe families,

As we come to the close of our school year, I wanted to share a few final thoughts.

We are still waiting on yearbooks.  When the shipment arrives, we will alert families of a pick up date and time.

If you have not had an opportunity to pick up student belongings or drop off library books this week you will have one more chance tomorrow from 10-11am.  If your student has medications housed in the office, please pick them up on Thursday at 10 am.  

During the summer I will be getting married.  My last name will change to Mrs. Pechette.

If you have moved or are planning to move to a different school district and your children will be enrolling in a different school for the 20/21 school year, please email Yuliya Vathis.

In response to current events our staff has come together to have courageous conversations about racism.  We are committed to continue the work.  Through site funds, we have purchased culturally responsive classroom libraries for every classroom at Phoebe.  These libraries are rich with literature that represents diverse cultures.  The stories will give students the opportunity to meet people unlike themselves.  Then teachers will have the opportunity to teach children empathy and prospective.  We know that it’s not just about what we say, it’s about what we do for our children.  We are committed to putting our words into action.

4th R Registration

Due to COVID-19, 4th R Registration for the 2020/21 contract year is on hold until further notice.

Please continue to follow our web page for updated registration information and 4th “R” reopening dates.

Due to possible social distancing guidelines and CDC guidelines, our 4th “R” registration process might be formatted differently from years past.

Phoebe Student Device Pick-Up

Dear Phoebe Parents and Families: 

Thank you again for your continued patience as we navigate through this unprecedented COVID-19 crisis. We realize that our students have had a major disruption in their educational process. We appreciate your support and patience while we work through these uncertain times together. 

On April 10th, we will provide computers to students at the front of our school. We will provide one computer per family at this time.

Information about computer pick-up:

DATE: Friday, April 10th
TIME: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

We will use a drive-through style check-out system. Please see instructions for pick-up below.

PICK-UP LOCATION: Front of school.  This will be a drive-up pick up.  Please stay in your car.  One of our Phoebe staff will bring the computer to you.  If possible, please print and sign the  Student Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement. If you are unable to print and sign at home, please bring your own pen to fill out a copy at the time of pick-up.


  • 9:00 – 10:00 – Last names A-L of families who indicated they needed a laptop by communicating the need to teacher or principal.
  • 10:00 – 11:00 – Last names M-Z of families who indicated they needed a laptop by communicating the need to teacher or principal.
  • 11:00 -12:00 – All other families needing a device.


We will deploy one sanitized computer to every family who does not have access to a device at home for remote online learning opportunities. If your student(s) already has access to a device at home, we ask that you not pick up a computer as our distance learning program will be supported on any computer operating system.

When picking up your student’s computer, please:

  • Parents/Guardians/Those Listed as Emergency Contacts: Bring an ID and have your student’s school ID or ID number available.
  • Drivers: Remain in your vehicles and wait patiently to be served for safety and social distancing.
  • Walkers: If you must walk, please keep and adhere to the 6-foot distance rule as you approach the check-out station.

Those checking out the device must review our Annual Parent and Student Rights Notification and Standards of Behavior, and sign the Student Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement (Spanish Version – needs to be downloaded and attached)
