Next week, we will begin our annual state testing for English and Mathematics. This examination process, referred to as CAASPP testing (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress), will span four days for each student in grades three through six. Over the four days, students will see a variety of question types – multiple choice, short answer, and essay – in each subject area as they navigate the tests in an online environment. In a few months, each family will receive score reports of how their student performed, and we will also be measured collectively as a school. Last year, we were fortunate enough to be the top performing school in the district in this area, and one of the best in the county, which is something of which we can all be proud!
As with anything we do at school, we expect our kids to put forth their best effort and look to improve upon past performance. The students have worked so hard this year and these tests are another opportunity to show what they’ve learned – we’re confident they will do just that. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you in advance for supporting your student and the school by ensuring that he/she arrives on time to school with a full night’s rest and a good breakfast on testing days. To understand more about the specific tests and the organization that has developed them – Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium – families should visit: http://www.smarterbalanced.org/parents/ or http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/. Feel free to stop by the office or ask your teacher as well should you have any other questions.
