April Newsletter

Dear Phoebe Families,

Last month, Mrs. Butterfield, Mrs. Rupert, Mr. White, and I worked together to write the application for the California Distinguished Schools Award (fingers crossed!).  The application tasked us with writing several essays that explained, throughly and in detail, a model practice of ours that is distinguished from what is required by the district.  After putting our heads together, we concluded that the parent participation model at Phoebe stands out as one of our defining characteristics.  Once we had a clear direction, writing the essays came very easily because every single facet of our school is supported and enhanced by you all.  Be it after school programs and activities, field trips for every grade level, enrichment classes during the day, or community events and fundraisers, our parents are central to making every day positive, engaging, challenging, and interesting for our little Dragons – thank you.

On Friday evening, the community is coming together to support technology at Phoebe for our annual fundraiser, La Fiesta de Phoebe.  The hall at the Turn Verein will be decorated beautifully and a room full of enticing silent auction items will be on display. There will be delicious Mexican food and drinks, music for those of you who like to dance, and even a special video presentation for our school produced by our very own Marco Martinez.  We’ll close the evening with a live auction (featuring some incredible artwork courtesy of Ms. Jane and our students), and super parent/auctioneer Eric Johnson will bring his expertise and enthusiasm, as he always does!  All of the proceeds of the evening will go towards laptops for students, technology upgrades in classrooms and around campus, and training for teachers to integrate technology into their instruction.  Please come out to support your school and enjoy the experience that PTO President Jenny Simmons and her team have been working hard to put together!  If you haven’t already done so, you can buy your tickets here: La Fiesta de Phoebe Tickets!

I hope everyone had a restful Spring Break – this week, you’ll receive more information about the Book Fair, CAASPP testing, and Home Run Reader. We’ll see you tomorrow for morning announcements as we enter the home stretch!
